Tibor Toth, Managing Director of Investments
Tibor has over 20 years of private equity and venture capital investment and entrepreneurial experience, and has led the Investments Division at MassCEC since 2013. Tibor has focused in the clean energy sector since early 2010, when he joined a clean energy company, QGEN, as its chief financial officer. Previously, Tibor worked at Babson Capital, Ascent Venture Partners, Lee Capital and Berkshire Partners. Tibor is an adjunct professor at the Brandeis International Business School and serves as a director or observer on several corporate and non-profit Boards. Tibor holds a Bachelor of Science in Management Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, completed the Masters of Management and Manufacturing (MMM) program at Northwestern University, receiving a Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg School and a Master of Engineering Management from the McCormick School. Tibor is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst charter holder.
Kathryn Elmes, Investment Principal
Kathryn has worked to support clean technology startups since 2014. Prior to joining the MassCEC Investments Team, Kathryn served as the Director of Cleantech Open Northeast, the global accelerator for early-stage clean technology startup companies run by the Northeast Clean Energy Council (NECEC), after having served as the Director of Operations for the Worcester Cleantech Incubator (WCTI). Before joining the clean energy innovation ecosystem, she taught for Clark University and Saint Joseph’s University’s Haub School of Business. Kathryn received a PhD from the Graduate School of Geography at Clark University, MSc in International Development: Environment and Development from the University of Manchester (UK), MA in Geography, and BA in Geography and Peace and Conflict Studies from Colgate University.
Katie Dobbins, Investment Analyst
Katie has worked at MassCEC since 2014 helping grow Massachusetts’s clean energy and water innovation ecosystem. Prior to joining the Investments Team, Katie managed programs on the Innovation Team, to fund and build relationships with incubators, accelerators, business councils, municipal wastewater treatment plants, and clean energy innovation partners (locally, regionally, and internationally). Previously, Katie worked as an International Student Advisor providing on-site support to Northeastern University students completing their first semester of college at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Katie spent time in Brazil and South Africa studying social entrepreneurship and alternative energy technologies. Katie holds a Bachelor of Arts from Northeastern University in Environmental Studies & International Affairs, with a minor in Social Entrepreneurship.
