The BETA: Commercial Building Pilot offers commercial building owners a unique opportunity to receive a custom electrification and decarbonization plan along with implementation resources. We’ve already selected participants for several categories of building types, but we’re still accepting applications.
We’re prioritizing buildings for the pilot based on a data-driven approach that emerged from the Market Characterization Report developed by Slipstream, the pilot’s lead technical consultant. This approach will provide broad benefits and insights for ongoing building decarbonization in Massachusetts, as buildings selected will be representative of the breadth and depth of variety in building characteristics (e.g., size, age, HVAC system type, hot water system type, etc.) in the Commonwealth’s building stock. We’re also considering the scalability of retrofit pathways and financing mechanisms. Finally, we’re prioritizing certain building types in environmental justice communities and non-metro areas to understand the unique challenges and opportunities posed by working in buildings serving various populations.
The table below shows some of the building types we are still seeking applications from for the remainder of candidates for the pilot. If you have a building of a type listed below with the desired characteristics, we especially encourage you to apply. For example, if you own a warehouse building that is 20,000 square feet or more, built before 2004 with a PSZ RTU gas system and a gas or electric domestic hot water distribution system in a non-metropolitan area, and you are looking for a decarbonization assessment and plan, we strongly encourage you to apply.
